Viewing and Managing the Operational Assessment

The Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics has both a sample test and the operational assessment. This section includes instructions for school administrators on accessing, viewing and managing the operational assessment.

After logging in to your account, you can view the list of assessment sessions at your school by selecting the Assessment Sessions tab on the main navigation panel.

Using this view, you can create new assessment sessions, edit or cancel assessment sessions, view submitted sessions and view details about each assessment session, including the invigilator(s) assigned to the class, the number of students, the time (if the session has been scheduled) and the status of the session.

Scheduling New Operational Assessment Sessions

For information on the sample test, refer to Viewing and Managing the Sample Test.

The Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics can be scheduled by the school administrator or the teacher. If the teacher is scheduling the sample test and/or the operational assessment, the school administer can skip these steps.

The operational assessment can be scheduled in advance of the planned first day of the administration of the assessment or on the first day of the assessment.

Note: The operational assessment can not be scheduled if there is a sample test currently scheduled. The sample test must be closed before the operational assessment can be scheduled. Refer to the section Closing the Sample Test for more information.

Follow these steps to schedule an operational assessment session:

  1. After logging in to your account, select the Assessment Sessions tab to be taken to the assessments page.
  2. To create a new session, click Create New Session.

3. This will open an input field that will prompt you to enter information about the session.

Enter the appropriate class/grouping code, select the Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics, select Later, (this is the only option available for scheduling the operational assessment) and set the start dates. Click OK when you have finalized your dates and are ready to finish scheduling the operational assessment.

Note: A scheduled assessment will then appear in the Status column as Pending. Once it is started it will be marked as In Progress. The column Assessment Type will indicate if the scheduled assessment is an operational assessment or a sample test.

Note: If you would like to view the sessions that were already submitted, click the Submitted Session(s) toggle above the table. If you would like to view the sessions that are in progress or pending, toggle back with the In Progress/Pending Session(s) button.

Editing Operational Assessment Sessions

The date of an assessment session can be adjusted under the Assessment Sessions tab, which can be accessed from the main navigation panel.

The assessment session start dates can not be edited once the assessment session has begun. If student results have been submitted by the teacher, the assessment session will be closed. A new assessment session will need to be set up to allow any students who have not completed the assessment to continue.

Select an existing session using the checkbox beside the session and then click Edit Selection. This will open the session editing screen and allow you to edit aspects of the session, including the date.

Monitoring the Completion of Assessment Sessions

After logging in to your account, you can view the list of sessions at your school by selecting the Assessment Sessions tab. The Status column will inform you whether an assessment session is Pending, In Progress or Submitted.

Invigilating the Assessment

If a school administrator needs to invigilate an assessment session, it must be In Progress for a particular class. A school administrator must click the Invigilate button that corresponds to that class. Clicking on the button will take them to the invigilator page. From there they will be able to access the various features associated with invigilating an assessment session. Refer to the Invigilating Assessment Sessions section for more information.

Students Completing the Operational Assessment After the Assessment has been Submitted

If there are students who were unable to complete the operational assessment, they can complete the assessment provided it is still within the EQAO administration dates. Refer to Students Completing the Operational Assessment After the Assessment has been Submitted in the teacher section of this user guide for more information.
