Accessibility and Accommodation Options

The following is a list of accessibility and accommodation software that is supported by the assessment platform:

  • Built-in text-to-speech (an internal feature available during the assessment)
  • Read&Write for Google Chrome
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking
  • Kurzweil 3000
  • NVDA Screen Reader
  • JAWS

For Schools Using SEB or Kiosk

If schools are using SEB or Kiosk and they require one or more of these technologies to accommodate certain students, a list of the technologies needed should be provided to eqao-support@vretta.com.

If there is any other accessibility or accommodation software that is required by one of your schools but is not in the list above, e-mail eqao-support@vretta.com.

If accessibility or accommodation software is not compatible with the lockdown browsers (SEB or Kiosk), then schools will be required to use Alternative Access for these students through the EQAO website. Alternative Access will allow the software to run normally, and will retain key security measures that notify the teacher if the student attempts to navigate away from the assessment screen.

Note: Alternative Access will be available only to students who have an accommodation with assistive technology on their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and for whom the school administrator has checked this off in the e-assessment system in the Accommodations section. If Direct Access has been selected for the entire school, Alternative Access will not be required.

Note: Certain accommodations are allowed without an IEP.
